Greenland’s fastest-shrinking glacier is growing again

Greenlands fastest shrinking glacier is growing again

In the last two years, the Jakobshavn glacier in Greenland has started growing again at about the same rate it was shrinking in 2012, according to a study by NASA.

Watch as scientists try to make sense of the fact that reality doesn’t agree with their models, so reality must be wrong.

This from Science News

The Jakobshavn glacier around 2012 was retreating about three kilometres and thinning nearly 40 metres annually. But it started growing again at about the same rate in the past two years, according to a study in Monday’s Nature Geoscience. Study authors and outside scientists think this is temporary.

“That was kind of a surprise. We kind of got used to a runaway system,” said Jason Box, an ice and climate scientist with the Geological Survey of Denmark and Greenland. “The good news is that it’s a reminder that it’s not necessarily going that fast. But it is going.”

Box, who wasn’t part of the study, said Jakobshavn is “arguably the most important Greenland glacier because it discharges the most ice in the Northern Hemisphere. For all of Greenland, it is king.”

A natural cyclical cooling of North Atlantic waters likely caused the glacier to reverse course, said study lead author Ala Khazendar, a NASA glaciologist on the Oceans Melting Greenland (OMG) project. Khazendar and colleagues say this coincides with a flip of the North Atlantic Oscillation — a natural and temporary cooling and warming of parts of the ocean that is like a distant cousin to El Niño in the Pacific.

Temperatures near the face of the glacier are now the coldest they’ve been in 40 years.

And neither they nor their models can explain why.

AP finds hot records falling twice as often as cold

NewImageI laughed out loud at this report from the Associated Press. Watch the spin. And remember: politicians do spin, not scientists — unless their funding is at stake:

Over the past 20 years, Americans have been twice as likely to sweat through record-breaking heat rather than shiver through record-setting cold, a new Associated Press data analysis shows.

The AP looked at 424 weather stations throughout the Lower 48 states that had consistent temperature records since 1920 and counted how many times daily hot temperature records were tied or broken and how many daily cold records were set. In a stable climate, the numbers should be roughly equal.

Since 1999, the ratio has been two warm records set or broken for every cold one. In 16 of the last 20 years, there have been more daily high temperature records than low.

Sounds like proof, ‘eh? Read on!

Climatologist John Christy said that Borenstein framed the data wrongly:

The occurrence of both record highs and record lows is declining. Record-low events are simply declining more rapidly than record highs. The drop in record lows is associated with development around the weather stations, which causes low temperatures to increase more than highs for a variety of reasons.

The AP … is spinning the story by only noting that record lows are fewer than highs now—but the real story is that in the U.S., both extremes are falling. This is consistent with the decline in number of days greater than 100 [degrees] Fahrenheit (or 105 Fahrenheit or 95 Fahrenheit, etc.). The differential decline in record temps is inconsistent with [greenhouse gas] theory, which predicts an increase in record highs and higher TMax in general.

Climatologist Roger Pielke Sr. expressed skepticism of the AP analysis as well:

Without assessing the role of increased urbanization and other land-use changes … changes in atmospheric aerosols overhead, microclimate around observing site, changes in heights of observations, and concurrent trends in surface air humidity, it is not robust to attribute any changes in extreme temperatures to just human-added atmospheric CO2.

Seattle marks its warmest March day ever recorded

Warm record broken: proof of global warming!

Cold records shattered: just weather.

The National Weather Service says Seattle’s high temperature of 79 degrees Tuesday makes it the warmest March day on record since 1894.
The National Weather Service said on Twitter that the temperature was recorded Tuesday afternoon. The previous record was 78 degrees on March 29, 2004.
On Monday, Seattle hit 76 degrees, which was the earliest ever in the calendar year that Seattle has been that warm.
The weather service said other cities in western Washington including Olympia, Bellingham and Hoquiam also broke daily record high temperatures Tuesday.

Greenpeace Founder: Global Warming Hoax Pushed by Corrupt Scientists ‘Hooked on Government Grants’

Patrick mooreGreenpeace co-founder and former president of Greenpeace Canada, Patrick Moore, described the cynical and corrupt machinations fueling the narrative of anthropocentric global warming and “climate change” in a Wednesday interview on SiriusXM’s Breitbart News Tonight.

Moore explained how fear and guilt are leveraged by proponents of climate change:

Fear has been used all through history to gain control of people’s minds and wallets and all else, and the climate catastrophe is strictly a fear campaign – well, fear and guilt – you’re afraid you’re killing your children because you’re driving them in your SUV and emitting carbon dioxide into the atmosphere and you feel guilty for doing that. There’s no stronger motivation than those two.

Scientists are co-opted and corrupted by politicians and bureaucracies invested in advancing the narrative of “climate change” in order to further centralize political power and control, explained Moore.

Moore noted how “green” companies parasitize taxpayers via favorable regulations and subsidies ostensibly justified by the aforementioned narrative’s claimed threats, all while enjoying propagandistic protection across news media”

And so you’ve got the green movement creating stories that instill fear in the public. You’ve got the media echo chamber – fake news – repeating it over and over and over again to everybody that they’re killing their children, and then you’ve got the green politicians who are buying scientists with government money to produce fear for them in the form of scientific-looking materials, and then you’ve got the green businesses, the rent-seekers and the crony capitalists who are taking advantage of massive subsidies, huge tax write-offs, and government mandates requiring their technologies to make a fortune on this, and then of course you’ve got the scientists who are willingly, they’re basically hooked on government grants.

When they talk about the 99 percent consensus [among scientists] on climate change, that’s a completely ridiculous and false numbers, but most of the scientists – put it in quotes, scientists – who are pushing this catastrophic theory are getting paid by public money. They are not being paid by General Electric or Dupont or 3M to do this research, where private companies expect to get something useful from their research that might produce a better product and make them a profit in the end because people want it – build a better mousetrap type of idea – but most of what these so-called scientists are doing is simply producing more fear so that politicians can use it control people’s mind and get their votes because some of the people are convinced, ‘Oh, this politician can save my kid from certain doom.’

The narrative of anthropogenic global warming or “climate change” is an existential threat to reason, warned Moore:

It is the biggest lie since people thought the Earth was at the center of the universe. This is Galileo-type stuff. If you remember, Galileo discovered that the sun was at the center of the solar system and the Earth revolved around it. He was sentenced to death by the Catholic Church, and only because he recanted was he allowed to live in house arrest for the rest of his life.

So this was around the beginning of what we call the Enlightenment, when science became the way in which we gained knowledge instead of using superstition and instead of using invisible demons and whatever else, we started to understand that you have to have observation of actual events and then you have to repeat those observations over and over again, and that is basically the scientific method.

“But this abomination that is occurring today in the climate issue is the biggest threat to the Enlightenment that has occurred since Galileo,” declared Moore. “Nothing else comes close to it. This is as bad a thing that has happened o science in the history of science.”

Moore concluded, “It’s taking over science with superstition and a kind of toxic combination of religion and political ideology. There is no truth to this. It is a complete hoax and scam.”

Global Cooling: The Real Climate Threat

I feel like I’m back in the 1970’s, with everyone talking about Global Cooling and the Coming Ice Age again.

Scientists have seen that CO2 is not the driving factor in global climate.

  • Between 2000 and 2018, global temperature showed no significant increase despite a steep increase in carbon dioxide emissions from anthropogenic sources.
  • The same was the case between the years 1940 and 1970.

When carbon dioxide concentration increases at a constant and steady rate and temperature doesn’t follow the pattern, we can be certain that carbon dioxide is not the primary driver of global temperature.

So if not CO2, then what? Well, what scientists have known for centuries: the sun.

NASA has also known this for decades. NASA had a site devoted to it, but that page has been pulled due to political pressure.

Current climate alarmism is driven by a political agenda, not a scientific one. The climate models universally make incorrect predictions, and yet we blindly run ahead because of the political agenda driving them.

I will continue to post about global cooling in the future.

Moore recently began to speak out against his former organization, and recently called global warming a “fear campaign” by “scientists hooked on government grants.”

Socialists Criticized As ‘Math Deniers’

There is so much truth in this satire. 97% of all economists agree!

U.S.—Advocates of socialism are being criticized for their belief that a centrally planned economy can ever properly allocate resources in society. Those who believe this backward philosophy that’s failed every time it’s been tried are being labeled “math deniers.”

The time for debate has passed,” said one leading economist. “Rather than engaging with this kind of thinking, we need to shun people who believe the government can control the means of production without totally destroying an economy, leading to mass starvation and much higher levels of oppression.

“Do not engage these people—they are a menace to society.”

Critics of socialism have pointed out that the economic consensus is clear: socialism does not work and cannot calculate prices as the free market can.

“It’s dangerous that we’re giving a platform to people who deny very basic math,” said the economist. “It’s time for us to move on and figure out how to provide greater economic freedom rather than listening to these backward, math-denying bigots.”

Record Snowfall in Montana

Good thing snowfall is a thing of the past </sarcasm>

All-time daily snowfall record for any day of any year.

Missoula broke its daily snowfall record with 8.6 inches, more than the 8 inches recorded in one day in 1917, according to the National Weather Service.

But the “big winners” were in the Bitterroot: Stevensville saw 26 inches (more than 60 cm), Hamilton 25 inches, Lolo 24 inches, Florence 23 inches, and Victor 18 inches, said meteorologist Leeann Allegretto.

Los Angeles – Coldest February in 60 Years

This month is the coldest February in downtown Los Angeles in nearly 60 years, with the average high temperature at 60.6 degrees as of Sunday. That’s a full 8 degrees below the normal average temperature, the National Weather Service said in a news release announcing the record lows.

It hasn’t been this cold since 1962, when the average high temperature for the month in downtown L.A. was 59.8 degrees, the weather service said.

‘Ice tsunami’ spawned by windstorm spurs evacuations along Lake Erie

Global warming will do that to you. </sarcasm>

High winds causing chaos across the eastern half of the country with power outages and travel delays have created another problem: a literal wall of ice.
The windstorm created an “ice tsunami” Sunday across parts of New York along Lake Erie, pushing large chunks of ice along lakeshore areas.
The Niagara Parks Police Service posted video to Twitter showing the chunks of ice stacked up along the Niagara River Parkway along the lake, forcing the roadway to be closed in some sections.

Global Warming Update: California Officials Warn Skiers to Stay Home, Too Much Snow

The storm was expected to dump between 3 and 6 feet (1 to 2 meters) of fresh snow in a region where some ski resorts reported getting 3 feet (1 meter) since Thursday. Officials warned of avalanches in the greater Lake Tahoe Area, where heavy snow and high winds were expected through Sunday.

10 Ways You Can Drastically Reduce Your Carbon Footprint This Very Instant

13213150864076352673Do it!

Living a carbon-neutral life isn’t always easy, but with hard work, dedication, and lots of self-loathing, it can be done.

Here are ten ways you can reduce your carbon footprint at this very moment:

1.) Kill yourself. This is a surefire strategy to make your carbon footprint as small as possible. Just make sure to do it in a carbon-neutral way, like running yourself over with a Prius.

2.) Kill a friend or family memberDon’t just kill yourself: go the extra mile as an earth-loving, conscientious citizen. Kill as many people as possible to save the planet!

3.) Recycle your heretical Joel Osteen books by using them as doorstops instead of burning them. We know it’s tempting to burn that copy of Your Best Life Now that your well-meaning grandma got you for Christmas last year, but resist the urge. Instead, repurpose your Osteen books as a doorstop or paperweight.

4.) Have an abortion. See number 2.

5.) Cut your breathing back to just once every 7 minutesInstead of selfishly insisting on breathing every few seconds, reduce your air usage to once every 6 or 7 minutes. As an added bonus, this might help you accomplish step #1 as well.

6.) Insist that your church use a giant golden goblet instead of wasteful plastic communion cups. Picket your pastor’s house until he agrees to this green solution!

7.) Put a Coexist sticker on your Hummer. Coexist stickers are magical. They ensure you are forgiven for any extra chemicals you pump into the air. Slap a Coexist sticker on your Hummer or giant lifted monster truck to show people that you care and instantly earn yourself a few carbon credits.

8.) Make an alarmist documentary telling people to change their lifestyles while you fly in private jets and live in expensive mansionsIt’s a tried and true method.

9.) Eat less Taco BellThe number one cause of climate change is the after-effects of Taco Bell. Switch to vegan options like the grass in your front yard or maybe some rocks to make sure you’re doing your part to save Earth.

10.) Advocate for reasonable policies like replacing every car in America with a guy who carries you on his back to your destinationYou have to support major government action, such as replacing every car in America with a guy who carries you on his back to wherever you’re going. It’s convenient, green, and fun! Additionally, this measure would create millions of jobs.

We hope you take this advice to heart, so we can enjoy a safer, cleaner, humanless planet!

Summer Swelter in Lewiston Nears Record

Another global warming spin by the Lewiston Tribune. But the devil is in the details.

The summer of 2017 is shaping up to be a record-setter in the Lewiston-Clarkston Valley.

If both Saturday and Sunday see triple digits register on the official thermometer at the Lewiston-Nez Perce County Regional Airport, the seven-day streak will tie 2014 and 2006 as the ninth-longest in recorded history, Williams said.

“The farther we get out, things can change,” Williams said. “But if this holds now, we would be getting up there into a six-, seven-day streak.”

The city logged streaks of eight days in 1941 and 1939, and nine days in 2015, 1973 and 1942. The all-time record of 11 days smothered local residents in 1967, 1938 and 1897. That mark could be tied if the scorching weather holds out until Thursday, a distinct possibility according to extended forecasts.

So here’s the details:

  • The record for 11 days was set in 1967, 1938, and 1897
  • The record for 9 days was set in 2015, 1973, and 1942
  • The record for 8 days was set in 1941 and 1939

What I want you to notice is years that the record streaks were set. 7 of those were before 1980, before global warming started (remember our Ice Age predictions were the “consensus science” until the 1980s).

How can the hottest streaks of weather happen when the earth was not even warming yet?

Michael Mann’s “hockey stick” hypocrisy

Why would any “scientist” refuse to allow his data to be reviewed?

That’s not science. That’s fideism. Works for religion but not for science.

Penn State scientist Michael Mann grafted historical temperature data derived from tree rings and other sources to modern observations and smoothed things out to produce the now infamous “hockey stick” graph the UN likes so much.

Mann’s graph and the approach he used to create it has come in for withering criticism from other researchers.

Mann has consistently refused to share his data for others to examine, forcing one to wonder what it is he has to hide.  (The Medieval Warm Period for one thing).

Mann tried to use the courts to silence critics.

CFACT’s Bonner Cohen reports at that a decision appears imminent in the legal battle taking place in Canada between Michael Mann and Tim Ball, a climate scientist from the University of Winnipeg.

The court ordered Mann to submit his temperature data for examination and he failed to comply.

Bonner quotes Dr. Ball who said, “We believe that he [Mann] withheld on the basis of a US court ruling that it was all his intellectual property. This ruling was made despite the fact the US taxpayer paid for the research and the research results were used as the basis of literally earth-shattering policies on energy and environment. The problem for him is that the Canadian court holds that you cannot withhold documents that are central to your charge of defamation regardless of the US ruling.”

Science should be conducted openly, in the light of day.

Michael Mann should lay his cards on the table for all to see.  Unless of course, he was bluffing all along.

Johnny Depp, Climate Change Activist, Owns 14 Homes, A French Chateau, And A Private Jet

My mother used to say “actions speak louder than words”.

But that’s ok. He’s sincere about what he says. </sarcasm>

Actor Johnny Depp, who has been a supporter of global warming activism, has a rather unusual way of expressing it: he owns 14 residences, including a French chateau and a chain of four islands in the Bahamas, as well as a steam-powered 156-foot yacht.

Oh, and there’s one item he owns that he absolutely refused to part with when he was confronted with financial difficulties: a private jet. In an email from Depp he stated, “A commercial flight with paparazzis in tow would be a f–king nightmare of monumental proportions.”

All of this information came to light because of Depp’s fight with his former business managers, Robert and Joel Mandel, and their firm, The Management Group (TMG), claiming they had mishandled his finances. As Vanity Fair reported last week:

On January 13, after Waldman had worked with White and eight additional lawyers to sift through about 24,000 e-mails, Depp’s attorneys filed a scathing lawsuit against TMG, seeking $25 million in damages for negligence, fraud, unjust enrichment, and breach of fiduciary duty, among other things. Eighteen days later, TMG responded with a blistering 31-page cross-complaint, claiming that Depp was a spendthrift of epic proportions, who, despite his manager’s constant warnings, refused to curb his “selfish, reckless, and irresponsible lifestyle.”

Depp’s championing of global warming activism includes his movie production company attempting to buy the movie rights to a book that was a diary account of climate change disaster as seen by a London teenager. He also played in a concert with Aerosmith as part of their Global Warming Tour in 2012.

Having earned somewhere in the vicinity of $650 million, the idea of losing most of it seems rather extreme, but then again, Depp is the same guy who recently joked about assassinating President Trump.

Japan: Fifty solar PV companies already gone in 2017 as subsidies end. Coal soaring.

What’s the word for competitive-but-needs-a-subsidy? Broke…

If you have to subsidize it, it’s not sustainable.

Japan is experiencing that, where the solar companies are collapsing because they cannot sustain themselves without an infusion of subsidies from industries that work.

Up to 100 solar PV firms in Japan could face bankruptcy this year, with more than double the number of firms going bust in the first half of this year than the same period in 2016.

According to corporate credit research company Teikoku Databank, which surveys companies across various industries and has produced its third report on solar PV company bankruptcies, 50 companies in Japan’s solar sector have already gone out of business in the first six months of 2017.

While the market overall has rapidly expanded from the launch of the feed-in tariff (FiT) in July 2012, Teikoku Databank acknowledged that there has been a slowdown in deployment in the past couple of years as the government successively made cuts of 10% or more on an annual basis to the premium prices paid for solar energy fed into the grid.
