The single most important issue facing Moscow is a need for growth, according to resident responses to the city’s 2016 citizen survey.
According to the survey, released last week by the city, 61 percent of those who responded believe growth of business and retail is too slow, up from 59 percent in 2014.
Moscow has seen its share of business closures since 2014, with Main Street and the Palouse Mall being hit the hardest.
Antiques by Russ was a downtown antique store that closed in fall 2015 after about five years in business. Owner Russell Wheelhouse said his business was one of many brick and mortar shops in recent years that have fallen victim to the ease of internet shopping. Wheelhouse told the Daily News in 2015 another challenge was Main Street parking, which tended to be taken up by people working on Main Street and those doing other things than shopping in the area.
