I attended the GMA economic forum last night where economist Steven Peterson presented an economic study on our local economy.
He noted the economic benefits that NSA brings to Moscow. And that the loss of tax revenues from tax-exempt properties is greatly offset by the revenue that they generate.
Of course, you will read none of that in the Daily News article. You will also not read his comments about the way that the Daily News handles UI issues verses the way that the Idaho Statesman handles BSU issues. Nor will you read about the negative perception that Idahoans have of Moscow liberals.
If you are interested, I’m attaching a PDF of his Executive Summary. It really is a worthwhile read. For me, it reinforces why we cannot go back to the failed policies of Aaron Ament, Nancy Chaney, and the Moscow Civic Association that Linda Pall and her cronies would re-institute.
UI economist says county employment grew 7 percent in 5 years
The city of Moscow, while maintaining a strong relationship with the University of Idaho, has begun growing and showing economic and financial strength despite slow UI enrollment and financial growth, according to a study conducted by two regional economists.
One of them, Steven Peterson, a UI economics professor Peterson community leaders and the public Wednesday at the “Greater Moscow Economic Forum” hosted by the Greater Moscow Alliance at the Best Western Plus University Inn in Moscow.
Peterson said Latah County’s total employment grew 7 percent from 2012 to 2017, significantly higher than the negative 4.3 percent from 2001 to 2010.
Peterson said Moscow has a vibrant, entrepreneurial downtown; one of the finest Farmers Markets in the country; an emerging high technology services industry; a craft brewing district; a strong arts and cultural community; and a robust retail, trade and restaurant sector.
