Hillsboro police on Wednesday identified the masked suspect who tried to hijack a helicopter at Hillsboro Airport as a 25-year-old man apparently from Washington state who had no connection to the flight school where he held up a pilot and passenger at gunpoint Monday.
It’s still not clear why Holden Austin Gorka climbed over a barbed wire fence and tried to take the helicopter outside Hillsboro Aero Academy before takeoff, said Hillsboro police Lt. Henry Reimann. Investigators haven’t been able to find a permanent address for Gorka, but online voter records lists him as being registered in Olympia, Washington.
Gorka has no apparent connection to the airport or the flight school, Reimann said. Investigators also haven’t been able to determine if he has any history of mental illness or drug use.
It will take at least another two months to get Gorka’s toxicology results, Reimann said. The officer who fired at Gorka will be identified Thursday, he said. The officer is on standard paid administrative leave while the investigation continues.
Gorka didn’t have a pilot’s license, according to Federal Aviation Administration records.
