Trump on School Choice

Moments ago, President Donald J. Trump spoke about school choice, saying, “I want every single disadvantaged child in America, no matter what their background or where they live, to have a choice about where they go to school.”

Key word is ‘disadvantaged’. The big mistake of so-called ‘school choice’ advocates is that their main goal is union busting and not focussing on solutions that would help children of poor families attend private schools. But if they did so, that would be tantamount to socialism which they’re against.

    1. This is a bunch of hooey. The unions busted themselves thru their strong-arm efforts. Union membership is at its lowest level since 1950, and has been steadily declining. That in spite of us still not having school choice available to all children.
The parental cry for charter schools (well known for being out from under union rule) is an example of government school providing the educations parents want.
Finally, the statist position of “one size fits all public monopolies” is what’s gotten us in the current state of educational malaise.
