The largest timber fire to hit Latah County in years is believed to have been human caused. The Strychnine Fire erupted Northeast of Harvard Saturday afternoon. The blaze started off Palouse River Road East of Laird Park. The Idaho Department of Lands is leading the investigation into what sparked the blaze. They are being assisted by the Latah County Sheriff’s Office. Lieutenant Brannon Jordan says investigators believe the fire was human caused and authorities are seeking the public’s help. Anyone with information about how the Strychnine Fire started is asked to contact the Idaho Department of Lands. The blaze is now 30% contained. Crews made progress on the fire Tuesday which is holding steady at about a thousand acres.
