The Moscow Police Department has issued an update on its investigation into who killed four University of Idaho students.

Kaylee Goncalves, Madison Mogen, Ethan Chapin and Xana Kernodle were found stabbed to death inside an apartment near campus on November 13th.

Detectives have ruled out an incident involving Kaylee from mid-October. Investigators say Kaylee was at a local business when a man appears to follow her toward her car as she is leaving. The man doesn’t appear to make contact with Kaylee. Detectives contacted the man and another male that he was with and determined that they were at the business to try and meet women. Moscow Police say the men are not involved with the murders. Detectives looked into the incident based on statements Kaylee made to friends and family that she may have had a stalker.

Several reporters have been asking about the dog that was found inside the apartment where the students were killed. The dog was found in a room away from the victims. Detectives say they did not find any evidence on the dog and there was no indication that the dog entered the crime scene. Investigators don’t know where the dog was when the students were murdered.

The Moscow PD says that speculation about the victims’ injuries and cause of death is a disservice to the victims, their families and the community. Officials say that investigators have not released any additional facts about the case to the victims’ families. The Moscow PD states that they are committed to providing information whenever possible when it doesn’t compromise the ongoing investigation.

A private security company has been hired to provide security at the crime scene. The move frees up Moscow Officers for patrol.

Detectives are working through over 2,600 email tips, nearly 2,800 phone tips and nearly 1,100 digital media submissions uploaded to an FBI link. Investigators continue to believe this was a targeted attack.
