More accurate mapping shows that the Strychnine Fire in North Latah County has torched over a thousand acres. An aircraft using infrared mapped the blaze 5 miles Northeast of Harvard during a flight early Tuesday morning. There are about 120 firefighters on the line today. Heavy equipment will be widening the firelines that have been completed around the blaze. The fire remains at 0% containment. Low visibility from heavy smoke is expected to hamper helicopter water drops on the flames today. Laird Park, the Giant White Pine Campground and Bald Mountain Look Out remain closed east of State Highway 6. The blaze started Saturday afternoon and has burned timber, slash and underbrush. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
