Brief: Freeland resigns as vice chair of county GOP party

Via the Daily News:

John Freeland resigned as vice chairman of the Latah County Republican Party on Tuesday night at the party’s monthly meeting in Moscow before a vote to remove him from his position could be held.

A secret ballot was cast during a June 28 committee meeting and 13 of 18 committee members voted for a motion of no confidence of Freeland and to remove him from his position. Bill Goesling, a precinct committeeman, made a motion to reconsider the vote at the next meeting, which was Tuesday.

“I am proud to announce that I am leaving the Latah GOP Executive Committee as vice chair and will not be returning as long as it is run by racist, sexist and bigoted individuals such as (Chairman) Thomas Lawford, Carl Berglund and (Chairman of the 5th District Republican Party) Gresham Bouma,” Freeland said Tuesday.

Freeland said he will endorse Democrat incumbent Paulette Jordan in the District 5A House of Representatives race over Berglund.

Max Ryan, a precinct committeeman, was nominated and approved to replace Freeland as the vice chairman.
