Bomb threats reported at area businesses appear to be hoaxes

Bomb threats have reportedly hit businesses in Lewiston and Moscow today.

The threats did not appear legitimate, but came via email to businesses including the Lewiston-Nez Perce County Regional Airport, Clearwater River Casino and Lodge, Joe Hall Ford and Rogers Toyota in Lewiston.

The Idaho Statesman reported police in Garden City and Boise responded to bomb threats at three businesses today, two of them in Boise, which also appeared to be hoaxes.

The emails reportedly asked for $20,000 in bitcoin, with a threat the sender would have a “mercenary” bring a bomb into the business if not paid, according a news release from the Lewiston Police Department. Lewiston police advised businesses to stay on the lookout for anything suspicious but that whether to conduct business as usual is at their discretion.

The emails came from “Claire Washington” at janine@tonumbers.com, according to the news release. Anyone receiving an email from that address is advised not to open it, but to contact Lewiston Detective Brian Birdsell at (208) 746-0171.
