Rachel McKinnon, a biological male athlete who identifies as a transgender woman, won gold in the women’s 35–39 sprint event at the Masters Track Cycling World Championships in Manchester for the second year running.
McKinnon also set a new world record time during a qualifying race for the event.
Amid pushback over a biological male dominating a women’s sports division, McKinnon tweeted that “real champions want stronger competition,” and that if biological males were barred from women’s sports, any ensuing champion would be a “loser”:
