Commuter-In-Chief: Obama Sets New Single-Day Clemency Record On Last Day In Office

Obama granted clemency to 330 federal prisoners on his final day in office. Most of those receiving clemency were low-level drug offenders or nonviolent criminals. Obama granted clemency or pardons to nearly 2000 people.

As a final parting gift to the American people on his last day in office, earlier today President Obama commuted the sentences of another 330 federal prisoners, shattering his previous single-day record and bringing his total to 1,715, more than the previous 13 presidents combined. In addition, the President has pardoned 212 federal prisoners bringing his total acts of clemency to 1,927.

Of course, just as with previous announcements the President quickly took to twitter to celebrate the “accomplishment.”
