WSU’s record freshmen class also smarter

Washington State University’s largest freshmen class is also smarter. University officials announced on Monday that the average GPA for all incoming new students has climbed past 3.4. There are also a record number of Honors College students on campus this Fall and 10% more Regents Scholars. Monday marked the first day of class at WSU. Official enrollment numbers won’t be counted until the 10th day of the semester.

There are so many things wrong with this report.

First, grade inflation means that grades go up while academic capability goes down.

They do realize that students are getting 5.0 GPAs these days, right?

If you really want to know how the students are doing, count the number of National Merit Finalists attending WSU in the past and today.

But don’t look at GPA’s. That’s like looking at SAT / ACT scores (which have been dumbed down).
