Two weather warnings have been issued for today by the National Weather Service and the Idaho Department of Environmental Quality.

Smoke from wildfires in Idaho, Oregon, Washington and Montana is expected to affect all communities in Latah County until increased wind Thursday allows improvement, the DEQ warns.

Until that time air quality will vary between good and unhealthy depending on wind direction and time of day, according to the DEQ.

Improvement Thursday is expected only after winds of 40 to 50 mph, and lightning from a combination of dry and wet thunderstorms this afternoon and evening, according to the National Weather Service.

Children, the elderly and individuals with respiratory illnesses are most at risk of serious health effects. Those experiencing any difficulty breathing or excessive coughing should speak with a physician.
