Could it be because of their strong support for a $15 minimum wage? A $15 Minimum Wage for New York

You artificially raise the price of labor above the market price and you have workers fired. That’s Econ 101. 

Michael Saltsman explains the connection in a Forbes article titled “New York City’s Empty Storefronts And The $15 Minimum Wage.

Liberals will feel good about themselves, raising the minimum wage, all along putting people out of work in the process and closing businesses. I’m not sure if this is an unintentional consequence, or if that’s their ultimate goal.
