Statistics ease my fear of being a shark’s lunch

In today’s Lewiston Tribune, Kathy Hedberg writes: 

It is a great load off my mind to know that I am far more likely to be killed by an asteroid or the flu than getting eaten by a great white shark.

Let’s just look at the first part of that sentence. When was the last time someone (anyone?) was killed by an asteroid? 

Google it. Maybe, just maybe one person was killed by a meteorite in India in 2016. Maybe. 

And that was a meteor, not an asteroid.
