Pullman’s Population Drops By 7% Down 2,400 People In 2021 Estimate

ImagesWell done, WSU and your decision to send all the students home. In a census year. Brilliant.

Pullman’s population is down nearly 7% this year.

The Washington Office of Financial Management has released its 2021 population estimates.  The agency reports that Pullman’s population as of April 1st is 32,450 down 2,400 from last year.  That’s the smallest Pullman population estimate since 2015.

Pullman’s largest demographic is the student population at Washington State University.  WSU conducted class all online during the last academic year.  Similar population drops were experienced in the other university towns like Ellensburg, Cheney and Bellingham.

The change means Whitman County has the state’s largest 2021 population decrease at 5%.
