Moscow commission asks for solar panels on proposed police station

Moscow has the cheapest electricity in the USA due to hydroelectric power.

But the Moscow Sustainable Environment Commission wants us to have very expensive solar power because… it makes them feel good about themselves.

A payback of 20-25 years is ridiculous.

The Moscow Sustainable Environment Commission is asking the city to consider installing solar panels on the proposed police station to be built at the Moscow Recycling Center site on North Jackson Street by 2021.

Chair Steve McGeehan said commission members have approved sending a letter to the mayor and City Council requesting the city’s consideration.

“We should look for opportunities for sustainability and renewable energy,” McGeehan said. “We just wanted to more or less plant the seed for the council to consider.”

Commission Vice Chair Scott Fedale, who drafted the letter approved at the commission’s monthly meeting Tuesday, said the recycling center is a very open location with no tall buildings or surrounding trees nearby, making it an optimum space for absorbing solar energy.
