Many of Wash. State’s Sanders Delegates Remain Opposed to TPP

Opposition to the proposed Trans Pacific Partnership trade deal remains strong among Washington state’s Bernie Sanders supporters at the Democratic National Convention, even though Washington is one of the nation’s most trade-dependent states.

Sandra Williams, a Sanders delegate from Spokane, noted Tuesday that both Sanders and opponent Hillary Clinton opposed the trade agreement during the primaries.

But she is upset that the Democratic platform does not state clear opposition to the TPP.

Delegate Ava Sharifi says the trade deal would only help monopolies and big business. The 18-year-old Sanders delegate from Spokane says it would hurt small business and the environment.
