Jordan not resigning from seat

This is a savvy move on her part.

She has zero chance of winning governor of Idaho.

If she resigns her seat, she has a good chance of not getting it back.

Idaho state Rep. Paulette Jordan, D-Plummer, will not resign from her legislative seat as she runs for governor of Idaho, the Idaho Statesman reported Friday.

Jordan told the Statesman she will appoint a long-term substitute to fill her seat for the rest of the current legislative session.
On Wednesday, she announced she would resign and Gov. C.L. “Butch” Otter would appoint a Democratic replacement to serve the remainder of her term until November.

Jordan told the Statesman she is concerned about the gap in leadership that would result from this process.

“If I resign, the problem would be a 30-day gap in representation for my district,” she said.

The process of selecting possible replacements and then waiting for the governor to appoint one of those selections could have lasted until the end of the legislative session, Jordan told the newspaper.

“It was recommended by the (House) chief clerk to appoint a substitute so that there would be no time or votes missed,” she said.
Jordan has already taken a week off from the Idaho Legislature earlier this year to campaign across southern Idaho.

Jordan will run against Boise’s A.J. Balukoff in the May Democratic gubernatorial primary.
