Increased safety measures at the University of Idaho will continue next semester as investigators are still trying to find who killed four students.

Kaylee Goncalves, Madison Mogen, Ethan Chapin, and Xana Kernodle were found stabbed to death inside an apartment near campus on November 13th.

UI President Scott Green sent a memo to students this week about plans for the spring semester. The institution is adding personnel to its campus security team. Local law enforcement agencies will maintain a heightened presence on campus. The administration is working with the Moscow Police Department, Latah County Sheriff’s Office, and Idaho State Police to increase patrols in neighborhoods near campus. The UI Campus Safety Escort program is being updated to better serve students. The university will distribute personal safety alarms, host self-defense workshops, assess campus lighting, provide stalking awareness education and work with the Greek system to bring in external experts to assess house safety and security.

President Green’s memo says that students who are not comfortable returning to campus next month are encouraged to consider courses that are already offered online. A limited number of sections may be made available online at the discretion of the colleges. Students who register for online classes will have to complete those courses virtually for the entire semester.
