Deary juniors top Idaho public high schools in average SAT scoring

Let me get this right:

  1. The Deary public school outscored all the other expensive public schools in Idaho?
  2. The charter schools outscore the public schools? Even though they are run at a cheaper price?
  3. The private schools outscore them all? Even though they are run at a cheaper price?

Clearly we need to raise spending on the government schools </sarcasm>. Via the LMT

Deary Junior-Senior High School juniors shattered the statewide average test score on the SAT this year.

The feat makes Deary Idaho’s highest scoring public education high school, with an average score of 1,111 on the college-entrance exam.

The statewide average score was 989. Only districts with private or charter schools beat Deary.

Principal Darrah Eggers said the school has always placed high on the exam, but has never led the pack in public education.

“We have been placing in the top 30 schools every year for public schools in the state, and then in the region we are always near the top,” Eggers said.

“We always do well, but we’ve never been the top school, so we’re pretty thrilled with this.”

Even more impressive, Eggers said, is that the school’s poverty rate is higher than the state average, creating more challenges.
“It’s unique to do this with a high poverty rate,” he said.
