An internal audit of California’s DMV has revealed more than 1,000 people may have incorrectly been registered to vote.
The agency said about 1,500 people have been wrongfully registered between late April and late September due to a “processing error.” However, the agency claims none of those mistakenly registered are living in the country illegally.
The DMV said the mistakes have been caught and individuals who were improperly registered are being notified.
This comes as the agency was already under fire for admitting it mishandled 23,000 voter registrations last month.
Officials said they are working with the Department of Technology to correct these errors.
