And it’s still early October. Remember when Climatologists told us that snow would be a thing of the past by now?
Semis stop to chain up, multiple slide-offs on hills outside Moscow
A 3-mile portion of U.S. Highway 95 north of Moscow was closed briefly this morning as drivers struggled to navigate through the first snow of the season, according to the Latah County Sheriff’s Office.
Highway 95 was closed from about 8:30 a.m. to 8:50 a.m. from just north of the state Highway 66 turnoff to Palouse, or milepost 355, to roughly Walker Road, or milepost 358. Latah County Sheriff Richie Skiles said he responded to the scene, where three semi-trucks were stopped in the roadway as their drivers put on chains. He said eight or nine passenger vehicles were also stopped with their flashers on as drivers could not ascend Crooks Hill. Skiles said there were two slide-offs.
The road was closed to allow snow plows to clear the 3 or 4 inches of snow on the roadway and to lay down sand for traction, Skiles said.
Steakhouse, Crooks and Riverside hills, all located between Moscow and Potlatch, had snow on them, Skiles said.He said Idaho State Police and the LCSO helped to close the road and deal with traffic. No injuries were reported.
Skiles said he highly recommends that drivers put on high traction snow tires – studded or studless – as soon as possible.
