During a show about celebrities, a Turkish TV station edited out the cross on Selena Gomez’s necklace. (Apparently, her bare shoulders didn’t bother their Islamist sensibilities like a Christian symbol did.)

A convert to Islam who was fired from his job as a high school principal in Australia due to suspicions he was radicalizing students is now in a teaching position again at a different high school.

An Afghan immigrant in Germany who was sentenced for sexually abusing at least seven children was released from prison after serving only seven months after his lawyer and the court came to an agreement.

Close to 150 ISIS fighters accused of rape and murder who surrendered to Afghani government forces will most likely receive amnesty and be released. “The group will not be presented to legal and judicial authorities because they are taking part in the peace process,” said a government authority.

Three NATO soldiers from the Czech Republic on a foot patrol in Afghanistan were killed by the Taliban. The BBC reports that Afghanistan “is going through one of its bloodiest periods since the 2014,” and that the attack was the first such killing in almost a year.

Denmark’s ban on wearing niqabs (face veils) in public went into effect August 1. The first woman arrested for defying the ban was a 28-year old who got into a fight with another woman who apparently tried to pull off her niqab. (Both women were charged with violating the peace. The woman wearing the niqab was also fined for violating the Full-face veil law.)

Today, August 7, marks the 20th the anniversary of suicide bombings of the American embassies in Kenya and Tanzania by al-Qaeda in 1998. The bombings killed 258 people, including 12 Americans and injured thousands. The CIA said the attacks had been planned years in advance.

Saudi Arabia is allowing an Iranian diplomat to set up shop in the kingdom (most likely inside the Swiss diplomatic mission), an unusual move considering the animosity between the two countries. Relations between the two countries were cut off in 2016.

A British police officer called the organization Karma Nirvana (which helps victims of child marriage and honor violence) to ask if it was acceptable for a 26-year old man from Iraq to date a 12-year old girl. The man was accused of being a pedophile and the officer wanted to make sure he was being “culturally sensitive” before charging him.
