That’s $1.5m of taxpayer dollars to pay to silence sexual harassment and racial discrimination by our senators.
The Senate Rules and Administration Committee released a report detailing how much taxpayer money was used to settle sexual harassment claims against senators.
Findings published Monday night reveal $1.5 million has been spent on harassment settlements over the course of almost 20 years.
Note: this was published on Christmas Day. Purposefully.
However, not all the settlements listed in the report are in relation to sexual misconduct.
More than $420,000 of taxpayer money was used to settle racial discrimination claims against senators.
This comes after the House released its findings earlier this month showing more than $340,000 was used in similar settlements from 2008 to 2012.
